WHAT IS XANTHAN GUM

Xanthan gum is an extracellular polysaccharide macromolecular biopolymer secreted by the microorganism Xanthomonas aeruginosa, which is non-toxic and soluble in water. Xanthan gum is physically stable, acid and alkali resistant, salt resistant, calcium resistant, and has thermal stability, because of its superior performance, is widely used in food, petroleum, ceramics, textile, printing and dyeing, medicine, paper, paint, toothpaste, cosmetics and other industries.

Xanthan gum has good solubility in salt solution, no flocculation, no precipitation, enhanced temperature resistance, aqueous solution has strong structural viscosity, the external phase of the brine oil completion fluid developed in an oil field is high mineralization aqueous solution.

The drilling mud treatment agent with xanthan gum as an additive has strong shear dilution effect, salt resistance, calcium pollution resistance, significant suspension aggravator ability, inhibition of inferior soil and water-sensitive shale expansion and collapse ability is strong, less or no common soil can be used to achieve the purpose of adequate hole washing. It is a multi-effective, relatively good application of oilfield chemical additives.
